Interim Housing Guide

There are three main pathways you can take to find interim housing in Los Angeles. We recommend exploring all three pathways and each of the available resources within each pathway:

1. LAHSA & LA COUNTY INTERIM HOUSING PROGRAMS

1A) Visit a Coordinated Entry System (CES) Access Center:

  • You can visit an access center to receive support in entering interim housing programs and getting on a waitlist for permanent Section 8 housing.

  • For adults, visit:

    • Weingart Center - 501 E. 6 Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021 | Open M-F, 7:30am-5:30pm

    • Salvation Army Hollywood - 5941 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028 | Open M-F, 8:30am-4pm

    • Downtown Women's Center (women only) - 442 S. San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013 | Open everyday from 8:30am-3pm except on Th, open on Th from 8am-1pm

  • For families or pregnant adults, visit:

    • PATH Family Solutions Center - 3323 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90018 | Open M-F 8:30am-4:30pm

  • For youth ages 18-24, visit:

    • My Friend’s Place - 5850 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028 | Open M & W 10am-4pm; T & F 10am-3pm; Th 1pm-4pm

1B) Call the LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) Access Line:

  • You can use the line to begin the application process for the DMH’s interim

  • housing program. Program includes housing, counseling, and more for homeless adults and families who have a complex health condition/mental illness/or other vulnerabilities (includes undiagnosed anxiety due to a stressful housing situation)

  • You must be open to receiving mental health services such as counseling. You will never be forced or pressured to take mental health-related medications in the program

2. NON-CES INTERIM HOUSING PROGRAMS

3. OTHER TYPES OF SHORT-TERM HOUSING ASSISTANCE

3A) Visit a DPSS Office

  • DPSS offers multiple cash and rental assistance options for those facing housing insecurity:

    • CalWORKS program provides cash assistance to stay in an interim housing location (e.g., a hotel) or covers past 1-2 months of rent, for low-income families or pregnant people

    • EAPE program provides a one-time payment of $5000 to housing-insecure families who have already used all of the available CalWORKS resources listed above

    • GR program provides cash assistance for extremely low-income individuals and couples without children

  • Apply for any of these programs at a local DPSS office. The closest office to KIWA is at 2415 W. 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90057

3B) Call Father’s Table Mission

  • Korean Christian organization lead by Pastor Moody Ko that provides interim housing and food to male adults only

3C) Call Father Yohan Kim’s Street Ministry at St. James’ Episcopal Church

  • Shelter that provides interim housing

  • Priority given to Korean seniors over 65 who have been homeless for a week or longer
